The spirit of volunteerism and philanthropy is alive and well in Denver, and its most ardent advocates were honored at a recent dinner for Mile High United Way's Alexis de Tocqueville Society business and civic leaders, who donate $10,000 or more annually to the United Way.

This year's fete, titled "Blueprint Bash," served double duty by celebrating many of Denver's most charitable citizens and kicking off the United Way's Transformational Housing Initiative, a housing model giving low-income working families the chance to live in affordable housing while building assets to purchase permanent housing.

...The Kielys put their money where their mouths were by contributing a Legacy Gift of $60,000 to underwrite one of the project's 21 housing units. The gift was given in honor of popular Denver songstress Hazel Miller, who provided the evening's entertainment and talked about her experience as a former low-income single mother looking for safe, stable housing for her family.

Miller was stunned by the Kielys' gesture, but also proud because she represents the single mothers and working families that will find success through the initiative...
